The city of Kashan is located 250 km south of Tehran in a large oasis near the Kavir Desert in central Iran. This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times and was significant during the Sassanid dynasty, as well as later following the arrival of Islamic culture. Kashan rugs are made from the finest kork wool (from the neck of lambs), using the asymmetric knotting technique (Persian knot), which makes the rugs exceptionally fine and highly durable. They are characterized by diverse floral patterns, arabesques, palmettes, and leaf motifs, making such designs ideal for classic interior decor. They represent the heritage of the golden age of rug making in Iran (16th and 17th centuries), when Shah Abbas was a great patron of this art.

Rugs from Kashan, one of the oldest and most esteemed centers of Persian weaving, represent the pinnacle of classical Persian aesthetics. Their orderly composition, rich symbolism, and refined color palette are why they remain among the most popular choices for traditional rug enthusiasts worldwide.
The Kashan rug aesthetic is based on balance and harmony—it is recognizable by a central medallion with luxurious floral ornaments that flow across the entire surface in the form of vignettes, leaves, and arabesques. The patterns are extremely detailed and crafted with high precision, giving the rug a sense of delicacy and nobility.
The color palette of Kashan rugs typically includes deep reds, dark blues, ivory, and gold tones, and occasionally softer bluish or pastel shades. The colors are derived from natural dyes, such as indigo, madder root, pomegranate, or walnut shells, which gives them a special softness and warmth.
