Carpet restoration and repair

FARZAD Gallery is a specialized gallery, restoration workshop and store of unique, top-quality, hand-knotted Persian nomad carpets and the most prestigious classic Persian carpets. All carpets have been carefully selected in Iran and are part of the exceptional collection of the Koushki family. In addition to selling carpets, we also run a restoration workshop and gallery activity with the aim of presenting this wonderful art to the widest possible circle of people. The owner of the gallery and head of restorers, Farzad Koushki, specializes in the restoration, cleaning and collection of unique, rare antique Persian carpets. He is also an expert and has extensive experience in the classification and evaluation of carpets, which he shares with his colleagues in the gallery and workshop at Gornji trg 12 in Ljubljana. Collaborator ethnologist Aleš Krhin researches the history and symbolism of Persian carpets. You are invited to visit us in the Persian carpet gallery in the center of Ljubljana.

We have many years of experience and trained craftsmen who have used their knowledge to preserve more than a thousand carpets, including extremely valuable collector's and museum carpets. Common carpet damages include: worn fringes, holes and tears, moth damage, missing or damaged knots, wear or damage to the edge, destroyed base... In our work, we ensure the highest quality of service and use only the highest quality hand-spun Iranian wool and silk, and all other necessary materials.

In cooperation with the Restoration Center of Slovenia, we also perform ANOXI sterilization of carpets (moths or caterpillars of carpet moths), which is the only reliable method for the complete destruction of carpet moths.

Does your carpet need restoration or repair?

Frequently asked questions about carpet repair or restoration:

The carpet looks damaged and has some fringes missing. Is there anything that can be done?

Of course, the fringe can be repaired or reattached. It is only important to do this as soon as possible so that the damaged area does not get bigger. More unraveled fringe means a more demanding and expensive repair. In addition, the knots start to fall out.

The carpet is damaged, eaten by moths. Can this be repaired?

We can restore it, even if it has extensive moth damage. First, the carpet goes through anoxic sterilization - to kill the moths, then we clean it by hand. Only after cleaning are all the damages visible and then we can decide on the restoration method.

Do you only repair Persian rugs?

No, we repair, restore and clean all types of hand-knotted rugs as well as all machine-made rugs.

How much does it cost to restore or repair a hole in a hand-woven rug?

Since every hand-knotted or woven rug is unique, and the damage varies, it is impossible to determine a uniform repair cost for all types of rugs in advance. Only after we have looked at the rug can we tell you the cost of repair for each one individually. You can bring it to our gallery, or we can come to you anywhere in Slovenia.
