The city of Kashan is located 250 km south of Tehran in a large oasis bordering the Kavir Desert in central Iran. This area was inhabited since ancient times, holding significance during the Sasanian dynasty and later after the advent of Islamic culture. Kashan carpets are crafted from the finest kork wool (from the neck of lambs), utilizing an asymmetrical knotting technique (Persian knot), which renders the carpets exceptionally fine and highly durable. They are characterized by diverse floral patterns, as well as arabesques, palmettes, and leaf motifs; such a design is ideal for classic interior decor. They represent the legacy of the golden age of carpet making in Iran (16th and 17th centuries), when Shah Abbas was a great patron of this art.
