The city of Kashan is located 250 km south of Tehran in a large oasis by the Kavir Desert in central Iran. This area has been inhabited since ancient times, it was important during the Sasanian dynasty, as well as later after the arrival of Islamic culture. Kashan carpets are made from the finest kork wool (from the neck of lambs), using the asymmetric knotting technique (Persian knot), which makes the carpets exceptionally fine and at the same time very durable. Characteristic are diverse floral patterns, as well as arabesques, palmettes, leaf motifs, and such design is ideal for classic interior décor. They represent the heritage of the golden age of carpet making in Iran (16th and 17th centuries), when Shah Abbas was a great patron of this art.
