In Malayer and the surrounding villages, some of the most beautiful and decorative Persian carpets are made. The wealth of diverse motifs such as boteh (sometimes meaning a sprouting seed, which is a symbol of rebirth and fertility in nature) was one of the more popular motifs of the (now antique) carpet weavers in this area. They also liked to depict stylized birds, herati designs (diamonds surrounded by palmettes or flowers) or flower petal motifs. The wool was dyed with natural, mostly vegetable dyes, the characteristic basic color of the carpet of this area is dark blue. Like all other antique carpets, Malayer carpets are also a good investment and have recently become increasingly desirable among carpet collectors. The motifs they depict are drawn from the natural environment, local and general traditions and their own lives. Thus, in Persian carpets and also in this beautiful Malay carpet, you can find everything from stars, stylized flowers and diamonds (herati) to archaic Mesopotamian shapes (boteh).
