The carpet shown in the photograph is a magnificent example of a Ziegler-style Persian carpet, renowned for its harmonious composition, rich color palette, and timeless aesthetic balance. It is a hand-knotted carpet made from the finest wool, which provides a velvety surface and a soft yet durable structure, suitable for daily use while maintaining a refined artistic character.

The Ziegler style originates from the late 19th century, when European clients sought Persian carpets tailored to Western tastes—somewhat more subdued, with more “open” compositions and softer contrasts. However, this piece deviates from the stark minimalism of a classic Ziegler: the rich red background, accentuated by gold and blue tones, creates an impression of luxury that remains elegant and balanced.

A magnificent medallion pattern unfolds in the center of the carpet, framed by arabesques and floral motifs that flow toward the edges. The characteristic Ziegler design is evident in the way the pattern “opens up,” allowing for greater airiness and less visual saturation despite the rich ornamentation. The border, with its geometrically stylized cypresses or trees of life, adds further symbolic depth.

This carpet functions as an artistic object with a narrative—unobtrusive yet present, it brings character, warmth, and subtle Oriental nobility to a room. In a classic setting, it comes to life as an integral part of tradition, while in a contemporary space, it can create an exciting counterpoint—a warm, earthy accent that balances the coolness of modern lines and materials. Ziegler carpets like this one are therefore exceptionally popular among both connoisseurs and interior designers, as they combine ancient craftsmanship with a sense of modern taste.
